INTERFACES
David Zucchi (saxophones)
Robert Laidlow (electronics)
Our 70-minute programme explores music arising from technological interfaces; sounds and music which sit somewhere between the human and the machine. At its heart are two substantial works for saxophone and electronics: James Tenney's "Saxony" (1978) and Robert Laidlow's "content" (2024). Each piece develops an individual sonic world that envelopes, reacts to and completely immerses the soloist. Accompanying these two works is a freely improvised duet for saxophone and new instrument "stacco" (performed by Robert Laidlow) which uses live AI to melt timbres together and control live-processed sound.
